      Permanent Account Number

The PAN (Permanent Account Number) card is an important document even for the simplest financial procedures, such as opening a savings bank account or applying for a debit or credit card.

It is a 10-digit alphanumeric identifier that can be assigned to any individual, business, firm, Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), AOP, or other group by the income tax department.

These days, you are able to submit a partially online PAN application. This is so that you can send the acknowledgment receipt to the National Securities Depository (NSDL) or UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (UTIITSL), which are the organizations that the income tax department has authorized to process PAN applications on its behalf, even after you have finished all the other steps.

PAN cards are now required as main document for a number of transactions, including opening bank accounts, investing, buying and selling real estate, loans, credit cards, and buying and selling cars. In many circumstances, PAN cards are also accepted as identification proof for individuals.

In order to avoid a greater deduction of 20%, you must provide your PAN if you are delivering services to a client and the client deducts TDS from the payment proceeds. PAN is required in order to file your income tax return.

TDS deduction is given to non-PAN holders at a higher flat rate of 20%. The Income Tax Rule 114B lists the transactions and activities for which a PAN must be quoted.
