Small food and beverage enterprises expecting an average annual revenue of up to Rs. 12 lakhs are eligible for FSSAI Basic Registration. It is a basic form of FSSAI food license, as its name suggests, and can be obtained by submitting the FSSAI registration form. Online license and registration certificates are being issued by approximately 35 states/UT.
The FSSAI license has been issued for a period of 1 to 5 years, dependent upon the business’s needs. The FSSAI license renewal must be submitted no later than thirty days prior to the license expiration date. Two further FSSAI license categories are available in along with the basic registration: State Food License and Central Food License.

How to apply for FSSAI Basic Registration
Steps of registration process for FSSAI basic are given below:
- Form-A in the application should be submitted with a fee of Rs.100/-
- Get a unique reference number for your application.
- After the above process, the registration may be approved or denied by the Registering Authority. Therefore, within seven days of receiving the application that the food company operator has registered, the reasons must be acknowledged in writing.
- If the application is approved, the food company may begin the business.
- The RA has the authority to issue an inspection notice if required.
- In seven days, the inspection will be scheduled.
- In the case that the process for inspection is approved, the inspection will be completed in 30 days.
- If the process is completed successfully, then the FBO can start operating and the registration can be proceeded forward.
Required Documents for FSSAI Basic Registration
- Photo identity of the Food Business Operator
- Documents used to prove identity are Ration Card, Voter ID Card, PAN Card, Driving License, Passport, Aadhaar Card, Senior Citizen Card, Department Issued ID.
- List of products planned
- Form–B (completed and signed)
- Company registration certificate and MoA (in case of Pvt. Ltd. or OPC).
- LLP Agreement (in case of LLP)
- Partnership deed (in case of partnership firm)
- MSME, GST or Shop & Establishment Certificate (in case of Proprietorship firm)

FSSAI Basic Registration Renewal

FSSAI Basic Registration: If small food companies expect annual revenues of up to Rs. 12 lakhs, they may choose to register with the FSSAI Basic registration.
FSSAI State License: Food business operators (FBOs) need a state license from the FSSAI if their annual turnover is greater than 12LPA but less than 20cr. It is essential to note that manufacturers should have a State Food License regardless of their turnover limit.
FSSAI Central License: Food business operators (FBOs) operating in multiple states and with an annual revenue exceeding 20cr are required to get an FSSAI central license for their head office through form-B, and to register each of their other branches separately according to with state regulations.

Under Regulation 2.1.8 (3), the Food Business owner may submit new application for Registration or license to the concerned authority after a 3months from the date of cancellation.
The department will penalize a food firm that operates without an FSSAI registration.
If a food business owner’s license or registration has been canceled or suspended, they must stop operations instantly. Under the FSS Act of 2006, running a food business while registration is canceled is illegal and may result in penalties.
In case that your FSSAI registration is not renewed on time, you will be charged ₹100 fine every day till it is renewed.
