Director Identification Number(DIN)
The Central Government assigns a DIN, or unique director identification number, to everyone planning to become or already serving as a director of a corporation.
It is a lifetime valid eight-digit unique identifying number. The directors’ information is kept up to date in a database via DIN.
A person can only have one DIN, even if they are directors of two or more firms. This is because DINs are exclusive to an individual. Additionally, the same DIN would continue to function at the new firm if he left the previous one to join another.
Where is DIN used?
The director signing any return, application, or information pertaining to a firm that is submitted under any legal framework will always include his DIN beneath his signature.
How may one obtain a DIN and the necessary forms?
SPICe Form:
Applications for DIN allotment to proposed initial directors for new companies must only be submitted in the SPICe form.
DIR-3 Form:
Anyone hoping to join an already-established firm as a director must apply for a DIN allotment using eForm DIR-3.
DIR-6 Form:
Any modifications to the directors’ personal information must be submitted using form DIR-6.
Justifications for giving up or terminating the DIN?
The following factors could lead the Central government to revoke the DIN:
- If the director has received a duplicate DIN,
- DIN was acquired by dishonest methods.
- Following the concerned person’s passing
- The court has determined that the individual is not of sound mind.
- The individual has been declared insolvent.
Documents to be attached with the forms
For SPICe Form:
Provide Identity and Address Proof with an Attachment. DIN would only be assigned to a candidate following form approval.
